SOMAR, East Kurdistan, — A civilian Kurd named as Nureddin Seferizade was seriously injured as a result of land mine explosion in Somar, a village in Kirmashan province.
A member of Mr Seferizade’s family stated that the land mine was exploded while he was attempting to neutralize it.
He also added that, “although most of the farms in these areas including Mr Seferizade’s are covered by land mines since Iran-Iraq war, for more than 23 years; the government does not care at all about the local people”.
It is being reported that Mr Seferizade was transferred to the Kirmashan hospital due to his serious injury.
Each year land mines implanted during the Iran-Iraq war cause lives and physical integrity of the civilians Kurds, but no attempts have been made to clear the areas of the mines.
