AMED, Kurdish Capital, — Human Rights Association (IHD) appealed to the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) concerning isolation of Kurdish national leader Abdullah Ocalan and other prisoners held in Imrali Island Prison, who have been denied meeting with families and lawyers.
IHD appeal voiced concerns about the denial of Ocalan’s meeting with his lawyers and his state of health as he has been isolated from the outside world since 27 July 2011.
The IHD draws attention to intentional prevention of visit right of Ocalan’s lawyers on the grounds of “bad weather” and ‘defective coaster’ as a response to weekly application of lawyers to visit their client.
IHD also demanded CPT to visit Imrali F-Type High Security Prison with a committee to be established for this purpose and to take steps concerning the isolation Turkey executes on Ocalan.
The petition also called attention to the arrest of Ocalan’s 35 lawyers on November 22, 2011 and underlined that the accusation against lawyers was inadmissible. The IHD petition pointed out that national and international provisions of law were violated by the executions implemented in Imrali Prison.
