Karayilan: 2012 will be the year of freedom

m-karayilanMEDYA REGIONS, — Murat Karayilan the President of Kurdistan’s Communities Union (KCK) stated in an in interview with ANF that Roboski Massacre was premeditated and the village was deliberately targeted by the Turkish army.

“In my opinion – said Karayilan – the village of Roboski was deliberately targeted in this clearly planned attack. This event is above the 33 bullet event in which 33 Kurdish citizens were slaughtered in Ozalp district of Wan 68 years ago. This is a crime committed as part of a coordinated plan. Survivors say that all groups had been stopped by soldiers and brought together in the area before the bombardment”.

According to Karayilan “Those who ordered this slaughter should say why they dropped bombs on people despite knowing that they were to target civilians. Perpetrators should be revealed and punished. The Kurdish people in this process should not end their dignified resistance on streets which will also determine the future of our people. The attack of the enemy has made us suffer a new sorrow”.

Karayilan was asked to comment on Labour, Democracy and Freedom Block deputy Leyla Zana who suggested the need for a referendum in Turkey to let Kurds decide which form of government and state they would prefer.

“We are demanding democratic autonomy – said Karayilan – which is a model proper for the conditions of Turkey and Kurdistan. However, the state’s persistence in refusing this demand will no doubt lead the Kurdish people to develop other ways. In other words, different developments will be brought to the agenda if the Turkish state doesn’t agree to a reasonable solution despite all proposals that Leader Ocalan has brought forward. I consider Mrs. Zana’s statements in this framework. We are in a process of discussions about Kurdistan and the possibility of Iraq’s division into three parts. The Kurdish problem needs to be solved and we suggest the state to settle with the matter together. Otherwise, the Kurdish people will find their own way in line with the right for national self-determination. As all other peoples, Kurds also have rights as one of the most ancient peoples of the history. We say that Kurds should also have the same rights with other peoples”.

Finally Karayilan remarked that 2012 will be the year of freedom. “The enemy deems sorrow and mourning as proper for our people but neither our movement nor our people will accept this from now on.  It is time to stop the enemy; the year 2012 will develop this struggle”.

What Zana said about the referendum

Leyla Zana had stated in an interview with Rudaw that “The Kurds have been demanding independence in the Meddle East for almost a century, but the governments of Iran, Turkey, Syria, and Iraq don’t want anything for the Kurds and they try their best to make sure that Kurds stay under their authority. Sometimes these countries are against each other and you sense that there is no agreement between them. But when it comes to the Kurdish issue they are all united. The Kurds in Syria, Turkey, and Iran are still being oppressed and divided. Fortunately, the Kurds in Iraq have some kind of semi-autonomy. According to the United Nations resolutions self-determination for the nations is also a right for the Kurds.

The policy of coercion must end toward the Kurds. The Kurds should have the right to decide their future on their own land. Why have the Kurds not united yet? It is because the Kurds have been divided and they followed tribal methods. Freedom, autonomy, Federalism are also the right of the Kurds. For example, Turkey can create a federal system like Germany. Ankara can decide on the federal issues and the Kurds should decide on regional issues. The Kurds should determine their future through a referendum. We will accept the results of the referendum which could be autonomy, federalism, etc. The Kurds should be able to decide their future like any other nation in the world and the world must accept that”.
