Kaplan: KCK operation is a civilian coup

kaplanANKARA, Turkey, — Kurdish deputy Hasip Kaplan reacted to the massive arrest of journalists and media staffs by the Turkish government. “All these political detentions are being carried out as part of a concept activated not by the judiciary but the government”, said Kaplan.

The BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) deputy Mr Kaplan labelled the political detentions as a “civilian coup”…“What happened on Tuesday”, he said referring to the detention of 42 reporters and media workers, “is nothing short of a civilian coup”.

Mr Kaplan also underlined that the operations’ aims to “bully and silence free media and opposition press organizations and render them ineffective”. Kaplan added that “All those political detention operations are being carried out as part of a concept activated not by the judiciary but the government.” Referring to the general who led the 12 September 1980 military coup in Turkey, Kaplan said that the AKP “is trying to finish the job started by Kenan Evren and the fascist junta”.
