NORTH KURDISTAN, — To protest against the strict isolation of Kurdish national leader Abdullah Ocalan and the increasing oppression of Kurds in Turkey, the female political prisoners in Karatash Women’s Prison launched an indefinite hunger strike on 2 December.
Demanding the government to urgently abandon this policy, they called on all the human rights organizations and all democratic segments not to remain silent in the face of the increasing operations of the Kurds and the isolation of Ocalan.
The hunger-strike campaign staged by of the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) and PJAK (Kurdistan’s Free Life Party) prisoners is reported to continue in many other prisons as well. The most recent indefinite hunger-strike campaign was staged yesterday by PKK member prisoners at Batman M-Type Prison.
