Racist attacks against BDP office

racist_turkISTANBUL, Turkey, — Following the simultaneous attacks on the Turkish military outposts in Hakkari in which around 100 troops were killed and wounded, waves of racist attacks on the Kurdish party BDP have been sparked.

Racist demonstrations are also held by primary and high school students for three days in front of the BDP District building and Academy of Democratic Politics in Umraniye district of Istanbul.

Speaking to ANF, Academy student Kemal Seven remarked that the situation was worrisome since especially students were used in these demonstrations.

“Many high school students were made to march in company with police on October 20th. They gathered at the square before the BDP district building, sang the Turkish national anthem and chanted slogans insulting the Kurdish identity and politics,” Seven said.

According to Kemal Seven recent events are different from former ones. About 100-150 primary school students were brought here and they were made to chant slogans like ‘martyrs are immortal our land is indivisible’.

Seven told that the events had continued along the same day, telling that a group of eight people tried to break the door of the BDP office and demolish it. “They couldn’t break the door but they broke all other things inside the building. They tore and burnt down all the banners and papers they found and damaged the building” added Seven.

Another witness Selim Inan, who was inside the BDP office at that time, said that the attack had been carried out under police supervision.

On the other hand, a group of fascist people attempted to set fire on the BDP building in Ataturk Neighbourhood after the imam of Cafer Agha Mosque pointed Kurds as a target in a racist sermon during Friday prayer.

Seven added that the racist words of the imam, who could be listened from outside as well by means of great megaphones, were being listened carefully by primary school students who meanwhile gathered in front of the mosque.
