Demirtash: No solution without Ocalan

selahedinAMED, — Peace and Democracy Party (DTP) deputies have staged a sit-in campaign in Amed (Diyarbakir), after which they held a press conference about the latest events.

In particular the deputies denounced how once again Kurds have been denied to express their views. Indeed the march organized against the isolation of Kurdish national leader Abdullah Ocalan, was prevented by the police and the government, not permitting thousands of Kurds who were already directed towards Gemlik.

The press conference was also an opportunity to denounce the ongoing arrest campaign in which over thousand of people ended up in prison in the past 5 weeks.

BDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş said that “while Ocalan is kept in isolation in Imrali Island, the solution to the Kurdish question has no chance”.

Demirtaş added that “the most important way to peace is through Imrali. The ruling AK party knows and accepted this in the past, which is why they held negotiations. Today is the anniversary of the October 9th international conspiracy [on this date Ocalan had to leave Syria]”.

Demirtaş went on saying that “We are also protesting this and we explain clearly that we are taking to streets to prevent the death of people, not to harm anyone or create a tension. The AKP police must understand this because we are at squares for their security of life as well. We are answering to those who ask who we are, referring to the insult of a police officer to BDP Bingol MP Idris Baluken in Diyarbakir yesterday, that we are those trying to protect you because you can’t protect yourselves. Peace will come to this country when you understand this.”
