Kurdish youths march to war zones as human shields

SULEMANI, — Today the Federal Kurdistan Region Patriotic Youth Movement will begin a three-day march to Qendil and Zap areas, where they will act as human shields in protest of Turkey’s ongoing aerial bombing campaign, which killed seven civilians on Sunday.

“We are marching against the invasion of our country, and we are marching against the attacks that our country is being subjected to,” said Dana Abdulwahap, spokesperson for the Patriotic Youth Movement.

“These attacks are not directed at the Qendil area alone, they are directed against the achievements of all Kurdish people. The Kurdish youths must not remain silent and should be honoured to take the responsibility to join this protest march. We cannot be mere spectators while our country is being violated,” Abdulwahap concluded.

Youths will gather in front of the Kurdistan Parliament and march from there to the Xakurk area, youth from Sulemani and Germiyan will go to Qendil, and youths from the Badinan area will march to Zap.

The march is expected to take three days. When they arrive at their destinations, the Kurdish youths will stay in the areas until the military operations end.
