IRAN, — The Iranian Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) launched a series of offensives on the Defence Regions of Medya controlled by the Kurdish guerrillas of PJAK on 16th July. But they were defeated embarrassingly with the loss of 330 troops.
Unable to bear with the bitter taste of such a disgraceful defeat, the commanders and senior members of IRGC threaten PJAK and warn to revenge.
After the defeat they filled the state run press and media with contradictory statements about what happened and how easily they could be squashed by the Kurdish guerrillas.
The state run Mehr News quoted a senior member of IRGC that Iran and Turkey are troubled by the similar problem and they will eradicate PJAK and PKK in the next couple of months.
Mehr News quoted General Mesjedi saying that they have planned to liquidate PJAK in the next couple of months.
It should be noted that prior to their invasion of the Defence Regions of Medya, the Iranian commanders were making similar claims and giving similar pledges.
Not long after their invasion in 16th July, all their pledges proved to be sweet dreams. Not only they didn’t crush the Kurdish guerrillas but they were dangerously pounded; a lesson that all they occupying powers of Kurdistan should take.
The Iranian invasion of South Kurdistan had a number of significant outcomes for the Kurds in all parts of Kurdistan.
Firstly it proved to the occupying powers of Kurdistan that the Kurds are the major regional power and it can’t be underestimated or defeated. Kurdish mountains are not Tamil’s seacoast!
Secondly, it pushed the Kurds one step further toward national unity.
Thirdly, it made PJAK more popular among the Kurds and much stronger.
