Hozan Hogir’s body in the mass grave

hozan_hogirVAN, — The body of Hozan Hogir (Cazım Tatar), who joined the PKK in 1998 and lost his life in the same year, is among the guerrilla bodies discovered buried in a mass grave close to Çatak district of Van. The whereabouts of Hogir has been in the dark since his death. Hogir was an appreciated musician.

A group of 41 PKK members, who were involved in a clash in Van’s Çatak district and some captured alive by the army, were executed massively with guns in October 1998. According to the reports, German human rights activist and sociologist Adrea Wolf and Hozan Hogir are also among the 41 executed guerrillas buried in mass grave.

While guerrillas’ families continue to get in touch with human rights institutions upon the news about Andrea Wolf, Hogir’s family is reportedly contacting to Van IHD Branch Secretary Sami Görendağ now and preparing to apply to prosecution office to find their son.

The news of ANF published on 4 March 2001 noticed the presence of a mass grave of 41 PKK guerrillas, including German internationalist Andrea Wolf (Ronahi), who lost their lives in a clash at the rural areas of Çatak/Van in October 1998.

CALL TO FAMILIES

Remarking that not much is known by the public about the details of the event in Çatak which was a true savagery as can be understood from the mass grave; Van IHD Branch Secretary Sami Görendağ called on all families to make an application to IHD. Görendağ underlined that they can only demand an examination through the applications of families which are therefore of vital importance.

Giving information to ANF, Hogir’s brother Cevdet Tatar said the followings; “After reading the news about Andrea Wolf, we made a detailed search and concluded that Hogir was also executed there at that time. We have applied to the IHD with a demand for the opening of the grave and the disclosure of the truth. We will soon go to Van to apply to the prosecution’s office.”
