DEFENCE REGIONS OF MEDYA, — Stating that the current conflict environment should absolutely cease to ensure a healthy progress for a constitutional solution process, KCK’s Executive Council Presidency noted that unilateral efforts will not be sufficient to bring to the beginning a solution process unless the army and the police stop operations.
Noting that the assessments and demands of Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan “are undoubtedly right and appropriate, as a movement, we have assessed these calls carefully and we have taken the decision to play our role and fulfil our responsibilities in this respect”.
Ocalan had asked for an extension of the ceasefire and also made a call to parliament to be called in and to be enabled to play his full role in the search for a peaceful solution to the Kurdish question.
TWO IMPORTANT CONDITIONS NEEDED FOR A PROCESS WHERE CONFLICT HAS NO PLACE
The statement by the KCK points out that “we therefore consider the need for a process where conflict has no place crucial for the development of a solution process”.
The two conditions spelled out by the KCK are as follows: “At the beginning of the new legislation period, the Turkish parliament should make a call to Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Ocalan to play a role in the process of a democratic and constitutional solution to Turkey’s most fundamental and strategic problem – Kurdish issue – and the parliament should create the appropriate conditions in this respect”.
The second condition has been spelled out as follows: “Announcing that solution of the Kurdish problem should be based on dialogue and peaceful ways, not on destruction and elimination and that police and military operations should be ceased, the Prime Minister or a state authority should start the process on behalf of the Government and State of the Republic of Turkey”.
