Dersim Genocide on the way to International Criminal Court

dersim4SERSIM, North Kurdistan, — A series of works and studies have been started to take the Kurdish genocide of Dersim which too place in 1937-8 to the International Criminal Court (ICC), report said today.

Witnesses in Dersim will be met and interviewed face to face, information and documents will be collected for this purpose.

Making a statement on behalf of the Germany-based Association for Reconstruction of Dersim, Haydar Isik informed that they have begun the works and studies to take the genocide to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The lawyers of the association held talks with various institutions in Istanbul on 4th April 2011 following the decision which appeared on the Final Declaration of DERSIM 38 Conference at Berlin City Parliament on 24 November 2010, said Isik and added; “Talks were made with TOHAV (Foundation of Public and Law Researches), Mesopotamian Cultural Center, the IHD (Human Rights Association) and Kurdish intellectuals and artists from Dersim”.

Reminding that the lawyers will go to Dersim today and carry out witness, information and document studies there, Isik said; “A legal course will be set following the visit to Kurdish authorities on April 10th and the court process will be initiated next”.

Isik continued as follows; “Should the genocides be forgotten or lived down, our people will be brought up against new ones. Therefore, the questioning of the genocides on Kurdish people has become unavoidable. The study under the leadership of the Association for Reconstruction of Dersim is supported by Kurmes Association, Berlin People’s Assembly, YEK-KOM, FEDA, KOMKAR Berlin and many intellectuals.
