Hezbollah in politics, a recipe for disaster in Turkey

gultenTURKEY, — Peace and Democracy Party’s (BDP) leader Gultan Kisanak says Islamist Hezbollah’s participation to legal politics will be a disaster, ANF reported today.

Recently leading members of the Turkish Hezbollah were released after 10 years in prison has prompted speculation regarding the organization’s possible revival.

The organization, unrelated to the Lebanese Hezbollah, is regarded as responsible for the deaths of hundreds of people during the mid-1990s, the worst years of the conflict between the PKK and Turkish army.

According to ANF report the BDP leader Kisanak said they fear that Islamist Turkish government has a political agenda for Hezbollah and warned that this would lead to a disaster for the country.

She criticized the Turkish legal system saying journalists are sentenced to 300 years in prison while the killers of hundreds are freed. “The legal system turned to an instrument for AKP” Kisanak said.

“Our people will not tolerate this. AKP should make necessary constitutional reforms, lift the anti-terror law and convert the judiciary system into a mechanism of justice,” she concluded.
