DIYARBAKIR, North Kurdistan, — Turkish president Abdullah Gul visited Diyarbakir, the capital of Kurdistan and reinstated that the only official language in Turkey is the Turkish.
“This will continue in this way. The language of the state and the public offices is Turkish, too. However, we have citizens using different languages,” Gül told reporters on the first day of his visit.
Gul’s visit to Diyarbakir and his emphasis on the denial of Kurdish language came as the Kurdish people in North Kurdistan demand the official recognition of the Kurdish language.
