Ocalan: This is the last chance for a democratic solution

serok16IMRALI PRISON, Turkey, — Kurdish national leader Abdullah Ocalan said in weekly visit of his lawyers that the next six months is the last peace for a peaceful democratic solution of the Kurdish Question.

As the unilateral ceasefire declared by the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) set to expire next June, Ocalan warned this period might be the last chance for Turkish government to take steps toward a peaceful solution.

Speaking from his solitary confinement in Imrali Island Prison Ocalan said that Turkey and the Kurdish movement are passing through a historic phase and clashes between Turkish army and Kurdish guerrillas may start again.

“Kurdish peace (with Turkey) is a very though job. We are trying to take the lamb from the lion’s mouth. Everyone should feel responsible for this task” he added.

Ocalan said he is writing the fifth book of his defence and developed new and practical proposals to solve the Kurdish Question.

Ocalan criticized the AKP and said that the Islamist party is the greatest obstacle to peace. He blamed the Turkish government for hypocrite and labelled all reforms on Kurdish issue as cosmetic.

On Kurdish movements relations with Gulen parish Ocalan said “We called for a peaceful and democratic solution for the Kurdish Question. Our aim is not an alliance but a settlement. An alliance is different, a settlement is different”.

“We are entering a very important 6 month period. If (the government) they can seize this opportunity a peace process may start. Otherwise a violent conflict which can not be foreseen may break out” he added.

Ocalan said his final decision about the process will be in June but he may reconsider to end his peace efforts in March.

He said there is a 50-50 chance that the conflict between Turkey and Kurds may end.

Ocalan also called the Kurds not to vote for the AKP saying that every vote for AKP is supporting the politics of war.
