Continuing arrests of Kurds in Syria

1208_2HASAKAH, Western Kurdistan, —  According to Kurdish Organization for Defending Human Rights and Public Freedoms in Syria – DAD, a patrol of political security arrested Suleiman Shawish in Deyrik in Hasakah province, on Thursday 28 October 2010. His whereabouts have been unknown since his arrest.

DAD condemned and strongly denounced the arrest of Suleiman Shawish and expressed deep concern about his fate. They call on security services to stop the arbitrary arrests that take place outside the law, and which constitute a flagrant violation of fundamental rights and freedoms guaranteed by Syria’s Permanent Constitution of 1973, and that are made pursuant to a State of Emergency and martial law which was declared in the country on 3 August 1963.
