QANDIL, Kurdistan–Since 1993 Kurdistan Worker Party (PKK) 17th time has announced unilateral ceasefire. Turkish governments, however, have not approached the ceasefire declaration seriously, and continuously implemented its discriminatory policies against the Kurdish people in Northern Kurdistan.
Unilateral ceasefire will lasts until 20th of September 2010. While in one side PKK is attempting to end the bloody war, which Turkish government forcibly imposed on Kurds in Northern Kurdistan, Turkish government insists on war, and according to the report which was published by (De Spiegel Online) on August 13, 2010 Turkish army using Internationally prohibited weapons (chemical weapons) against the Kurds, in its war on Kurdish people.
PKK’s frame organization, KCK released a statement in which it said that Kurdish guerrillas will hold their fire until 20 September. In statements which was published by the KCK, it stated that the Kurdish people defense forces (HPG) only uses forces in self defense, otherwise HPG will not attack Turkish army for the period stated in the statement.
The statement released on Friday said the unilateral ceasefire declaration is a new chance for the Turkish government to start democratic and peace process. KCK statement called on the Turkish government to halt all military operation against Kurdish guerrillas. KCK also demanded the release of the 1700 Kurdish politicians and activists, which are still held in Turkish jails.
“The Turkish government must lay out the framework for Kurdish national leader Abdullah Ocalan’s active participation to the peace process”, the statement said.
KCK also called on Turkey to lower the 10 percent election threshold. On its statement KCK also called on the international community especially the United Nations to play a constructive role for the peace process. Although the UN charters confers all Human Rights, self determination and independency to the minorities, in practice they have not taken any exclusive step in Turkey to contribute the peace solution of the Kurdish question.
