As the war between Iran and the US–Israel coalition enters its 14th day, reports from prisons across Rojhelat (Iranian Kurdistan) indicate increased restrictions and heightened security measures.
According to received information, due to wartime conditions many political prisoners have been transferred from prisons in smaller cities to prisons in provincial capitals. In the central prisons of Urmia, Sanandaj (Sine), Kermanshah, and Ilam, all in-person visits have been suspended since the beginning of the war. Political prisoners held in security wards are facing stricter limitations.
Families of several sick prisoners say authorities have prevented them from being transferred to the prison clinic or accessing their medications during this period, and their health conditions have worsened.
Reports also indicate that in some prisons in these provinces, a number of prisoners convicted of ordinary crimes have been granted temporary leave. However, political prisoners have been excluded from this measure. Meanwhile, following attacks on some security facilities, hundreds of special forces have reportedly been deployed around several prisons, and security measures inside the facilities have been significantly tightened.
