Sunday, February 22, 2026 – Major universities in Tehran and several other cities have once again become the stage for widespread student protests. According to reports and videos circulating on social media, students have launched a new wave of demonstrations, chanting bold anti-government slogans.
Clashes at Capital Universities
The rallies, which began early this morning, quickly escalated into violent confrontations between protesters and Basij paramilitary forces. The situation is reported to be critical at the following institutions:
University of Tehran and Sharif University: Students gathered in central campus areas to chant protest slogans. A heavy presence of security forces and plainclothes officers has significantly heightened tensions.
Amirkabir and Khajeh Nasir Universities: Leaked footage shows physical altercations where students are seen standing their ground against Basij Forces attempting to break up the crowds, repeatedly chanting “Dishonourable” (Bi-sharaf).
Shahid Beheshti University: Reports indicate that several departments have been surrounded, with strict security measures enforced at the university gates.
