Kurdish Singer Yalda Abbasi Arrested and Transferred to Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad

Yalda Abbasi, a well-known Kurdish singer and dotar player from Shirvan in North Khorasan Province and a resident of Germany, has been arrested following her recent trip to Iran and transferred to Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad to serve a one-year prison sentence.

According to human rights sources, Ms. Abbasi was detained in Mashhad in recent days and informed that she had previously been sentenced in absentia to one year in prison on charges of “propaganda against the state” in connection with her activities during the 2022 protests and the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement.

Yalda Abbasi is the founder of the all-female music group “Nazar” and is recognized as a prominent figure in Kurdish and Khorasani music, with an extensive record of artistic and cultural activities in Iran and abroad.
