Youths in Şengal mark the anniversary of the Êzîdî genocide
Youths in Şengal staged a march to mark the first anniversary of the genocide perpetrated by the savage gangs of Islamic State organization in the Êzîdî town in South (Başur) Kurdistan, the Kurdish region in Iraq.
The march by youths living in camps in West (Rojava) and South Kurdistan was also participated by youths living in the camps in Mount Şengal where thousands took refuge under the protection of PKK guerrillas who reached their help soon after the beginning of the ISIS attacks on the Êzîdî community one year ago.
The demonstrators joining the march, which began after a press briefing in the Sinûnê town of Şengal, carried banners condemning the Şengal genocide and demanding the exposure and trial of all those responsible.
Following the march which continued till the Valley Kersê, youths moved to the cemetery of martyrs’ where Şengal Youth Movement read out a press statement after a ceremony.
The statement pointed out that Êzîdîs have so far suffered many genocides in the hands of occupying states, the aim of which was to create an Êzîdî society estranged from their will and faith, to perpetrate a physical genocide and thus to kill the Êzîdî community. “Yet, the Êzîdî faith never died out, and it was always able to protect itself”, it underlined.
Regarding the 74th genocide Êzîdîs suffered last year, the statement said; “Facing a great betrayel by the KDP, our people suffered yet another savage and heavy genocide on August 3, 2014. The pershmerga forces fled their positions and left our civilian people to the hands of savage ISIS gangs. Thousands of youths, men, women, elderly and chilfren were abducted by ISIS and thousands of others were massacred in this genocide.”
Youths also criticized the world’s states for remaining silent to this genocide too, as was the case in previous ones.
The statement further called attention to the policies of the KDP against the Êzîdî community, and voiced the following warning to the Êzîdî people; “A large part of our community are either leaving their lands or staying away from the ongoing resistance today. KDP wants to realize its objective, which it failed to do with the genocide, by pursuing particular war policies against our society and striving to wipe out our culture and moral.”
The statement by Êzîdî youths continued by condemning the Turkish state’s support to ISIS gangs, saying that; “The foundation of this much strengthening of ISIS was laid by MIT (Turkish intelligence service) in Turkey. Through the ISIS, it is being intended to destroy the communities and peoples with a historical and cultural background who side with freedom. By means of the recent Suruç massacre and ongoing attacks on the Kurdish Freedom Movement, AKP tries to keep the ISIS gangs standing after their defeat in the hands of the Kurdish people.”
Şengal Youth Movement condemned the negative attitude of the KDP and the attacks of the AKP, and called on the international community and world’s states to provide further support to the Kurdish forces that saved them from genocide and enabled hundreds of thousands a crossing into safe areas.
Youths from Şengal ended their statement by calling on all their people, youths in the first place, to join the ranks of the YBŞ-YPJ Şengal and avenge the victims of the 74th genocide the Êzîdî people suffered.
