Cemil Bayik: Iran is externally moderate, internally suppressive

Cemil Bayik

In a message sent to the Eastern Kurdistan Conference taking place in Sweden, KCK Co-chair Cemil Bayik outlined his outlook for Iran and the region.

A summary of Cemil Bayik’s message:

The Middle East is passing through a particularly violent time. The peoples of the region are struggling against this war. The Middle Eastern peoples want to determine their own future, but there is a resounding lack of leadership in the region. Organisations like Al-Qaeda are attempting to fill this void.

In order for capitalist modernity to be rendered unsuccessful in the region, the peoples must resist against capitalism and its collaborators. Only then can the peoples of the Middle East attain true freedom.

The Kurdish people have been resisting for many years, and have sacrificed many things. The Kurdish people have become an important dynamic in the region; they are not only struggling to solve their own problems, but the problems of all peoples in the region.

Iran is a significant state in the region and should not be taken lightly. Iran has hegemonic plans and ambitions in the region. They want to accomplish this through Shiism. There is a certain shift in policies in Iran, however, it is unclear as to where this is going.

Externally, Iran is becoming seemingly moderate, however, internally it is becoming even more suppressive. Iran must fulfil its promises. The Peoples of Iran must raise their democratic struggle. As is the case in other parts of Kurdistan, the Kurds are struggling against nation-statism in Eastern Kurdistan (Kurdistan of Iran).
