During past days while the Rouhani administration officials decided to remain silent about the execution of Kurdish and Baluch political prisoners, the foreign minister of Rouhani’s government Mohammad Javad Zarif who traveled to Europe for nuclear negotiations, in an interview with the French newspaper Le Monde said no political prisoner has been executed in Iran.
In this interview while he denies the execution of Kurdish and Baluch prisoners, he defends the Rouhani’s government and claims that in Iran democracy is ruling and no one has been executed in Iran for political reasons.
While Mohammad Javad Zarif said these words that Ali Younesi the former Intelligence Minister also Special Assistant to the President in ethnic and religious minorities’ affairs, in a meeting with a group of Kurdish reformists said the recent executions were done by “extremist people somewhere else” and the government team is not happy about these executions. Ali Younesi tried to inculcate that the executions were outside of the government’s will but now the foreign minister completely denies these executions.
Mohammad Javad Zarif in answering this comment of the Le Monde journalist that “During the presidential election’s propaganda Hassan Rouhani promised that the human rights condition would be better, but still the execution of political prisoners is continuing…” he said:
“No one has been executing for political reasons in Iran. Our justice system is independent, but of course we can do better. President Rouhani promised to prepare the charter of citizens’ rights and it will be prepared. At least we deserve a little bit of respect. Elections are serious in our country. The predictions of western countries proved wrong during the presidential campaign because some people have misunderstanding about Iran. Did you know that four presidents have been changed via elections in Iran? This is democracy. No other country is the region has a comparable example like this.”
