Eastern Kurdistan has the highest numbers of detained, political prisoners and sentenced to death

ANF, Amjad Hossein Panahi — Within the past three months the security forces of Iranian regime have arrested 90 political, cultural and worker activists in different parts of Kurdistan. Yet, Iran has the second rank in the world and first rank in the Middle East in terms of execution.

Report shows that during the months of January, February and March of this year, Kurdistan with 90 cases of arrest has the highest number of detainees in all over Iran and placed on top of those areas that have been targeted by government repressions.

On the other hand, right now more than 20 Kurdish political and civic activists are sentenced to death and more than 300 Kurdish political prisoners are in jail all over Iran.

According to unofficial statistics, the highest numbers of political and civic prisoners are Kurds.

Since coming to the power of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the slightest activity of Kurdish civic activists are regarded as a political crime and always highest level of pressures imposed to Kurds.

During the past three decades, the political execution has not been stopped in Kurdistan and just in the past two years more than 10 Kurdish political and human rights activists were executed.

Among those activist whom have been executed in recent years;

  3. Ferzad Kemanger
  4. Ali Heyderiyan
  5. Farhad Vekily
  6. Shirin Elam Holi
  7. Husein Xizri
  8. Ferhad Tarim
  9. Hikmet Demir
  10. Kiyumers Muhemmedi
  11. Esmaeil Muhemmedi
  12. Sasan Ale Kenaan

These 12 people were Kurdish activist whom have been executed because of seeking justice.

Political executions in Kurdistan are not limited to the contemporary history of Iran and the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran, but the highest rate of executions occurred in the last period. The first executions of Kurdistan are related to this period were on 27th August 1979 (05/06/1358). After that only until 1991 (1370) 832 people were shot (executed) in Kurdistan.

Today after three decades of establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran, still the policy of government is execution in response to Kurdish question.

Ranked second in the world and first in the Middle East

The latest report of “Amnesty International” in 2012 shows, the number of executions in Iran were four times more than Saudi Arabia.

According to this report, 99 percent of the region’s executions are performing in four countries: Iran, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Yemen.

Amnesty International says based on the number of executions, Iran has the first rank in the Middle East and after China with one billion and three hundred million populations has the second rank in the world.

According to this report, after China and Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and United States have the highest executions.
