British national Hadi Butimar was kidnapped in Sulemani

hadi_butimarSULEMANI, South Kurdistan, — A Kurdish human right activist and British national Hadi Butimar was kidnapped in Sulemani while he was paying visit to South Kurdistan.

According to Kurdish Media News Hadi was visiting Sulemani and staying with a member of his family, when Kurdish security broke into the house dragged him out.

Hadi has been kept incommunicado and his family and friends fear of handing him over to the Iranian authorities, where he has been sentenced to death in absentia.

Hadi is a British national of Kurdish ethnicity born in 1973 in the Kurdish town of Meriwan, East Kurdistan.

Hadi is the brother of the well-known Kurdish journalist Hiwa Butimar who has been sentenced to death by the Iranian authorities and is still in prison.
